Technical developments are progressing at high speed. Thus, the term "blockchain" is not unique to digital currencies. Instead, there is talk of a technology that will disrupt existing products, services, and even business models. In order to better assess the potential and impact of blockchain technology, various companies from different technologies and, in particular, financial sectors have joined forces in consortia in recent years: The R3 Consortium, which is primarily a consortium of about 80 financial sector companies (UBS, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, ...). The IoT Consortium, which includes Bosch Ltd, Cisco Systems Inc, is investigating how blockchain technology can be used to secure and improve IoT networks. More than 120 financial, banking, IoT and industrial companies have joined the Hyperledger (Enterprise Ethereum Alliance) consortium. Another major topic is the migration of SAP systems, both locally from one data center to another and from one operating system to another or from one database type to another. As a rule, the SWPM tool is used here again.

The SAP Patch Manager (SPAM) is the online correction support (OCS) customer site. The SPAM transaction gives you the ability to easily and efficiently import support packages provided by SAP into your system. Depending on the system used or the configuration of your system, you must insert different types of Support Packages [page 8]. You will receive support packages in SAPNet - Web Frontend, in SAPNet - R/3 Frontend or on Collection CDs. Since SPAM runs within the SAP system, you do not need to know the operating system to handle the transaction. In the language usage of SAP, the term patch has been replaced by the term support package. Note that you can only work with this transaction in SAP GUI for Java and SAP GUI for Windows.

PROJECT HISTORIES: THE SAP basis OF TOMORROW An entry in the Forum Infrastructure and Operations within the DSAGNet drew attention to the problem of the SAP basis as described above. This led to a lively discussion, which attracted a lot of interest from the members of the DSAM. Building on the interest and need for action of the member companies, a project was initiated by the DSAG as well as by the SAP, which should deal with the future of the SAP basis. Several companies were invited to participate and their willingness to participate actively was questioned in a DSAG survey. The first project meeting took place within the framework of the DSAG Annual Congress in Bremen in 2015. As a result, regular events took place at the SAP office in Freiberg am Neckar and St Leon-Rot, with the participation of up to 15 companies. In the project "the SAP basis of Tomorrow", current questions of the companies as well as the question of the SAP basis of the future were discussed and worked out with regard to the IT landscape, processes and organisational structure. A master's thesis was initiated to document and prepare the results as well as to examine the topic in scientific terms in parallel with the project. This was made at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt as part of the Master's programme in Information Systems with Prof. Dr. Karl Liebschnitel and submitted for evaluation at the end of March 2016.

With "Shortcut for SAP Systems" a tool is available that greatly facilitates some tasks in the SAP basis.
