In every company with several SAP systems, there is a person responsible for the complete SAP Basis topics, usually there is even a separate department for this. This person ensures the trouble-free operation of the SAP systems. The person responsible also accompanies maintenance work or upgrades and intervenes in special situations, such as poor performance. Even for companies that hand over the operation of the SAP Basis to an external service provider, there are often still tasks from the environment of user and authorization management at this point.

STEP 1: DEFINITION OF PERFORMANCE This step deals with the description of the services to be offered. Similarly, this step provides a categorisation of the type of service. These include, for example, the levels of secondary or primary service. With respect to the SAP basis, this step is concerned with product portfolio analysis and the creation of IT products and a product catalogue. STEP 2: OWN RESOURCES Subsequently, a determination of one's resources takes place. That is, it identifies the resources that are available and that can be used and the resources that need to be developed. Resources are people, objects, systems, knowledge, and funds. For the SAP basis, this step is an inventory. STEP 3: DETERMINATION OF THE OBJECTIVES The mission and vision of service providers will be determined in the framework of the setting of the objectives. It also sets measurable targets for the next three years.
REDUCTION OF CUSTOMER SPECIFICATIONS
In order to have some advantage in terms of new SAP technologies, suitable PoCs (Proof of Concepts), research and pilot projects must be initiated to build know-how and evaluate boundary conditions or feasibility. Furthermore, this serves the evaluation of new business models by the underlying technology in collaboration with the respective business unit.

You may know the situation that you want to quickly put a short SQL statement on your SAP system without having to invest much effort in ABAP programming. You may not have the ABAP knowledge to extract data from a table, but you are familiar with SQL.
Tools such as "Shortcut for SAP Systems" are extremely useful in basic administration.
For example, SAP administration using WebAS with ABAP and Java, system configuration and system updates, applying patches and corrections, and updating users and authorizations.
