SAP Basis ensures smooth operation of the SAP Basis system. The SAP Basis system is a kind of operating system of the R/3 system or SAP ERP. It includes three layers: database, application and presentation. In addition, Basis includes many SAP middleware programs and administration tools. With Basis SAP applications can be used compatible and independent of operating system and database and can be enriched with the necessary data.
The dataowner should be the adm of the target system, which you can change (in the Unix console) with "chown adm K12345.DEV" (respectively R12345.DEV for the data file). To change the access permissions, you can use the command "chmod 664 K12345.DEV". Attach transport jobs in the SAP system Once this has been done, you can attach the transport orders in your SAP system to the import queue. This is done by using the STMS -> Import Overview (F5) to display the import queues. Select the import queue of the target system with a double click. After that, you will receive a pop-up under "Additions"->"More orders"->"Attach", which you can use to attach the transport orders to the import queue. In the pop-up you have to name the exact transport order. The correct name for this is as follows: The first three characters are the file extension of the two files you copied into the transport directory. The last characters consist of the file name of the cofiles file. In our example transport the transport would be called "DEVK12345" (deriving from the cofiles file K12345.DEV) This should now return a positive message from SAP and the transport is attached to the import queue. Now you can import this transport into the system just like any ordinary transport order. Following the recommendation of dividing the SAP basis into an application-orientated and infrastructure-related SAP basis [A4], Figure 3 shows a possible presentation form. The SAP-Basis interface function is structured into a SAP basis, which is close to the application and is responsible for coordination and communication with vertical and higher IT specialist and business areas, and a SAP basis close to the infrastructure. The infrastructure-related SAP basis in turn serves as the link between the application-orientated SAP basis and the infrastructure levels. Subject Matter Experts will perform the link task again. In the application-orientated SAP basis, in turn, technology architects are more likely to be placed. The presentation layer is the top layer of the R/3 SAP Basis system and includes the communication with the user. Here, the data is graphically prepared for the user on the end device by means of software components from the application programs of the application layer. The presentation layer is the interface to the user (SAP GUI).
With "Shortcut for SAP Systems" a tool is available that greatly facilitates some tasks in the SAP basis.
