Security within the development system
Mitigating GRC risks for SAP systems
Authorization: An authorization allows a user to perform a specific activity in the SAP system based on a set of authorization object field values. Authorizations allow users to perform actions within the system.

Define critical permission combinations that cannot be assigned in the monitored systems. A whitelist allows you to specify which users (such as emergency users) you want to exclude from the evaluation. Identify vulnerabilities in the configuration of your RFC interfaces, i.e. RFC connections, where users with extensive permissions (e.g., the SAP_ALL profile) are registered. These RFC connections can be used for the so-called RFC-Hopping, where access to an SAP system is made via such an extensively authorised RFC connection.
Integrate S_TABU_NAM into a Permission Concept
As part of the implementation of a security patch process, you will have to evaluate many security advisories, depending on your release and support package status. In this case, you can use the RSECNOTE report or the EarlyWatch Alerts to evaluate which security information has been identified as particularly critical by SAP Active Global Support. Since March 2013, the RSECNOTE report has only been very restricted and therefore contains only a few new safety recommendations. Nevertheless, it provides good guidance for the initial resolution of security gaps.

By adding certain SAP standard reports and the user information system ("SUIM"), you can quickly identify security-relevant issues and correct any errors. This improves basic management of your existing security concept and protects you against external and internal intrusions. If you need help with your system analysis, please feel free to contact us. Xiting offers you a wide range of services related to SAP Security. Above all, our proprietary security tool, the Xiting Authorizations Management Suite, or XAMS for short, allows you to build a new role concept based on your usage data and even generate a revision-compliant security concept at the push of a button. Why not see for yourself and join one of our many different webinars.

The possibility of assigning authorizations during the go-live can be additionally secured by using "Shortcut for SAP systems".

The extent to which the use of authorization tools makes sense depends on the size of a company.
